K'gari's problem is arithmetic: more stops than any single day can hold. Three days solves it. This 4WD eco tour gives the island room to breathe, swims that don't end at a guide's whistle, and golden hours at places day-trippers only see at noon.
The roll call is complete: Lake McKenzie's blinding white sand, the rainforest at Central Station, a float down Eli Creek, the Maheno shipwreck, the climb over the sandblow to Lake Wabby, Indian Head's lookout, where sharks, rays and whales patrol the water below in season, and the fizzing Champagne Pools. Your experienced eco guide drives, narrates and handles the logistics; you handle the swimming.
Camping is the classic way to do it (an upgrade to the award-winning Kingfisher Bay Resort exists for the tent-averse), and most meals are covered, just sort your own lunch on days two and three. Up to 20 travellers, World Heritage wilderness, zero rush.

Early start from Brisbane, heading north through the Sunshine Coast, the Glasshouse Mountains and Noosa. Tides permitting, you 4WD along the Noosa North Shore and Double Island Point, with the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach on one side and K'gari on the other. Stop for an early lunch at Rainbow Beach, then 4WD along the tracks to Inskip Point and board the ferry across to the island, watching for dolphins, turtles and dugong. On K'gari you cruise 75 Mile Beach past freshwater creeks to Lake Wabby, an emerald lake wrapped by a giant sandblow. Back at camp it is a hot shower, a swim in Govi Creek, dinner and a campfire, with an eye out for dingoes.
Catch the sunrise over the ocean, go dingo spotting or birdwatching, then enjoy a continental breakfast at the camp kitchen. Cruise 75 Mile Beach to float down Eli Creek, marvel at the coloured sands of the Pinnacles and see the Maheno shipwreck. Swim in the Champagne Pools, then climb Indian Head for sweeping views and a chance to spot sharks, rays, turtles and whales. Back at camp for sunset, your guides cook dinner and you settle around the campfire for stargazing on a remote surf beach.
After breakfast, head to Lake McKenzie for a swim in pristine fresh water and time on its white sands. Then cool off in the rainforest with a boardwalk walk beside the crystal clear Wanggoolba Creek at Central Station, where you will see rare giant king ferns and the Satinay forest. In the early afternoon you leave the island and head south, arriving back in Brisbane at about 7pm (Gold Coast about 8pm).
