Resumen

Eureka II had a proper racing career out of Sydney before she settled into the Whitsundays, and she's still one of the quickest maxis in the islands. She's 18 metres long, owned and skippered by a captain with 30 years of sailing behind him, run with two crew, and fitted out with an air-conditioned saloon, two toilets and showers, an undercover deck for when the weather turns, and, yes, Netflix and wifi. Trips leave Airlie Beach on Mondays and Thursdays at 2pm, with check-in at 1.30pm on Shute Harbour Road, and return on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 4pm, so you get two full nights at anchor and most of a third day on the water.

Sailing is hands-on if you want it, hands-off if you don't. Day one is the safety briefing and a cruise to the first anchorage for sunset, pre-dinner drinks and a crew-cooked meal. Day two does the Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet essentials, then gets off the beaten track: caves, guided bushwalks to different island lookouts, or shell collecting on the beach if walking isn't your thing. Afternoons are for chasing the best sunset position, and, weather allowing, the crew run you to a secluded beach for sunset snacks and a few drinks before dinner.

Every meal is cooked fresh on board: breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon tea and the sunset snacks. Private double cabins, half-double shares and single bunks are all available, linen and bath towels, stinger suits and snorkelling gear are supplied, and drinks are BYO. Minimum age 12, so it suits couples, mates and families who want a small boat rather than a party deck.

Itinerario de un vistazo

1 Day 1 · Check-in at Airlie Beach and the first anchorage

Check in at 1.30pm on Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach, where the crew walk you down to the boat for a 2pm departure (Mondays and Thursdays). After the safety briefing, settle in for the first afternoon at sea, cruising to the first anchorage as the sun drops over the islands. Pre-dinner drinks with the group while the crew cook the evening meal, then your first night at anchor.

2 Day 2 · Whitehaven, Hill Inlet and off the beaten track

The usual highlights first: Whitehaven Beach's silica sand and the Hill Inlet lookout as the tide swirls through the inlet. Then Eureka escapes the crowds for quieter spots: sea caves, a guided bushwalk up to one of the island lookouts, or a beach to yourself if walking isn't your thing. In the afternoon she chases the best sunset position and, weather permitting, the crew run you ashore to a secluded beach for sunset snacks and drinks before dinner and the second night at anchor.

3 Day 3 · Morning on the water, back to Airlie Beach by 4pm

A last snorkel or sail in the morning, lunch on board, then the run home. Whatever the weather, Eureka is set up to handle it, with an undercover deck if it blows. Back alongside at Airlie Beach at 4pm (Wednesdays and Saturdays), so book onward buses and flights for the evening or the next day.

Preguntas frecuentes sobre este viaje

  • How much does Eureka cost?

Eureka starts from A$679 with us. Today's prices: Share Single A$679 per person; Half Double A$699 per person; Private Double A$819 per person. Pick a date on this page to see the exact price and which cabins are still available.
  • Can I get Eureka for less elsewhere?

We check Eureka's price on other booking sites every day. Today it's A$689–A$699 on 2 other Australian booking sites and A$679 with us. If you find it for less, tell us and we'll do our best to beat it.
  • When does Eureka depart and return?

Departures are Mondays and Thursdays at 2pm from Airlie Beach, with check-in at 1.30pm on Shute Harbour Road. You're back on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 4pm. That's two nights at anchor and most of a third day on the water, so treat it as a three-day trip when you plan buses and flights.
  • What are the cabin options?

Three ways to sleep: a share single bunk, a half double (one side of a double cabin, shared with another guest) or a private double cabin for two. Pick a date on this page to see today's price for each and which cabins are still free. Linen and bath towels are supplied for all of them.
  • Is Eureka a party boat?

No. Eureka is a small sailing maxi with a minimum age of 12, an owner-skipper and two crew, built around sailing, snorkelling, bushwalks and sunset beaches rather than a bar. Drinks are BYO and evenings are sociable, but if you want a big-crowd party deck, look at the larger boats in our Whitsundays range.
  • What food is included?

Everything you eat on board: breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked fresh by the crew, plus morning tea, afternoon tea and sunset snacks on the beach. Message us with any dietary requirements before you travel and we pass them to the crew before departure.
  • Can I bring alcohol?

Yes, the boat is BYO. Bring what you'll drink over two nights, including bottled water and soft drinks, which aren't supplied. Cans and casks travel better than glass.
  • Do I get to sail the boat?

If you want to. Eureka II is a genuine ex-racing yacht and the crew put willing hands on the winches and the helm; if you'd rather lie on the deck with a book, that's fine too. No sailing experience needed either way.
  • What about stingers and seasickness?

Stinger suits are supplied and worn for snorkelling in the warmer months (roughly October to May). Eureka is a stable 18-metre keelboat that anchors in sheltered bays both nights, so most people sleep well; if you're prone to seasickness, take tablets before departure and eat normally.
  • ¿Qué debo llevar en la mochila?

A soft bag, not a hard suitcase: swimmers, a beach towel (bath towels are supplied), reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a light jumper for the evenings, any medication, your drinks and a phone or camera in a dry bag. Ask your Airlie Beach hostel to store big luggage for the trip.
