Resumen

Uluru gets the crowds at sunset. The connoisseur's move is 40-odd kilometres west, where Kata Tjuta's massive sedimentary domes, 'many heads' in the local language, stage their own colour change with a fraction of the audience and arguably more drama: every passing minute repaints the rock, ember-red to deep violet, until the desert switches the lights off.

This tour delivers you to the viewing area in an air-conditioned coach with an accredited local driver-guide whose commentary earns its runtime, the cultural and historical insights that give the domes their weight, plus the unique desert flora and fauna that thrive in their shadow. Then, as the show starts, out come the sparkling wine and light snacks.

It's just under three hours of the Red Centre at its most photogenic and least effortful. Bring a camera, a light layer for the post-sunset chill, and no agenda other than watching geology glow.
