6 Day 6 · Traditional massage

A free day to lounge on the beach or by the pool, explore the island or swim. A Thai massage is included.

7 Day 7 · Explore Koh Phangan

Visit some of the island's best spots and quieter beaches, then finish with a beach dinner.

8 Day 8 · Muay Thai or yoga

Choose a Muay Thai class led by a champion boxer or a private yoga class. Tonight is the last on the island, so the group heads out together.

Leave Koh Phangan for the Phi Phi Islands. Arrive late afternoon, check in to your resort and head out for dinner and drinks.

10 Day 10 · Phi Phi islands boat trip

Boat around Phi Phi Leh with snorkelling, kayaking and an after-dark underwater light show. Maya Bay entry depends on seasonal government closures.

11 Day 11 · Phi Phi experience

12 Day 12 · Travel to Phuket

Take a boat across to Phuket and have sunset dinner and drinks.

13 Day 13 · Travel to Chiang Mai

Fly to Chiang Mai, northern Thailand's cultural capital. Explore the city, relax by the pool or shop, then browse the night markets.

14 Day 14 · Temples & waterfalls

A full-day trip to Doi Suthep Temple with a local guide, a Thai-style lunch and the 'sticky' waterfalls.

15 Day 15 · Hill tribe stay

Trek out of the city through rice paddies and past waterfalls to a remote jungle stay, learning how a local hill tribe lives.

16 Day 16 · Bamboo river rafting

Wake to the jungle, trek on, then raft back by bamboo raft down the river. The evening is free for downtime or Chiang Mai's nightlife.

17 Day 17 · Elephant experience

Visit an ethical elephant sanctuary where you learn how to feed and care for the elephants.

18 Day 18 · Fly to Vietnam

Fly to Hanoi, where your Vietnam trip leader meets you at the airport and takes you to your guesthouse. Plenty of time to settle in with the group.

19 Day 19 · Discover Hanoi

Take a walking and rickshaw tour of the city and eat your way through spring rolls and street food. Dinner and drinks out in the evening.

20 Day 20 · Ha Long Bay overnight boat

Travel to Ha Long Bay and cruise its emerald waters, kayak through caves and coves, then spend the night on an overnight boat with a hot tub and bar.

21 Day 21 · Ninh Binh homestay

Reach the rice paddies and limestone mountains of Ninh Binh and stay in riverside bungalows at a local homestay.

Arrive in historic Hoi An and check in to your hotel. The afternoon is free to explore, shop or get a tailor-made suit or dress.

24 Day 24 · Basket boats & cooking class

Ride a basket boat with locals through the coconut groves, then join a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class.

25 Day 25 · Lantern making & beach club

Make a traditional lantern by hand, then head to the coast for a relaxed beach afternoon with lunch at a beach club.

Common questions about this trip

  • How is this different from the 27-day Asia Experience?

This 29-day trip adds Phuket and Chiang Mai, with a Doi Suthep and sticky waterfalls day, a hill tribe jungle trek, bamboo river rafting and an elephant sanctuary visit, and flies you from Chiang Mai to Hanoi. It spends four nights on Koh Phangan, skips Sapa and the Khao Sok treehouse night, and adds a Mekong Delta homestay and Cu Chi Tunnels at the end. It includes 36 meals and 28 nights; the 27-day Asia Experience includes 46 meals and 26 nights and heads to Sapa instead.
  • What does it cost on top of the trip price?

Flights, travel insurance and personal spending money aren't included. The trip page suggests budgeting around AUD $1,800 for extra meals, drinks, shopping, optional activities and any onward travel. Everything on the itinerary is already paid for, with nothing to pay on arrival.
  • Who travels on this trip, and how big is the group?

The average group is 22 travellers, aged 18 to 40s, from all over the world. Solo travellers are placed in shared rooms with someone of the same gender, though a room can occasionally be mixed. If you're travelling with someone, tell us and we'll keep you together.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

Dates or tours can be changed free up to 30 days before departure, and changes inside 30 days may incur a fee. If you cancel 30 or more days out, you can keep 100% of your payment as credit, or take a refund of 75% of the tour value. Inside 30 days the operator retains the full amount. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.
