Things to know before you start

  • Allow 21 days minimum

You'll regret rushing. 28 days lets you actually breathe.

  • Book Whitsundays early

Sails fill up 3–4 weeks ahead in peak season (Jun–Oct). Lock in early.

  • Bus pass > one-way tickets

A 90-day Greyhound or Premier pass usually beats stitching individual fares.

  • Northern stinger season

Nov–May = box jellyfish in open water. Snorkel reef gardens or netted lagoons.

  • Skip the Gold Coast

Most travellers regret nights spent in Surfers Paradise. Power through to Byron.

  • Hostel WiFi varies
