Overview

There's seeing K'gari from a bus window, and then there's driving it yourself, sand tracks, beach highway, the lot, with a guide up front showing you the lines. The tag-along format puts you behind the wheel of the 4WD in convoy, which is exactly as fun as it sounds.

Three days covers the icons: Lake McKenzie's white sand and clear water on day one, a full day exploring the island, then Lake Wabby before the ferry back to Rainbow Beach. Nights are spent at an enclosed campsite just metres from the beach, with fresh, healthy meals (dietaries catered with notice), twin-share tents, camp mats, sleeping bags, a covered common area with music, kitchen and phone charging.

Ferries, fuel, camping and park permits are all included, plus luggage storage in Rainbow Beach and a multilingual audio guide app. It's 18–39s, so your convoy comes with a built-in crew.

"This is a trip you don’t want to miss! … Safety is definitely a priority with this company which also put the groups mind at rest with safety briefings at the start before going to the island as well as daily itinerary’s on what we would be doing. … This is the best trip I have done while travelling along the east coast."
