Why travel to Fiji?
Close to home
Nadi is about four hours' flying from Sydney or Brisbane, and Australian, New Zealand, UK, US and many European passports get a visitor permit on arrival.
Islands made for hopping
One catamaran, the Yasawa Flyer, leaves Port Denarau every morning and runs up the Mamanuca and Yasawa chains. Resort boats meet it offshore, so moving islands takes no planning on the day.
Mantas and reef sharks
Manta rays feed in the Yasawa channels from about May to October. Kuata's guided snorkel puts you in the water with black-tip and white-tip reef sharks.
Social or quiet, your call
Some resorts run volleyball, kava nights and parties; others are a hammock and a reef. Mix both in one trip.
Bula spirit
Village visits and kava ceremonies are easy to add to an island stay, and you'll hear "Bula!" from everyone you pass.
Warm water all year
May to October is drier and calmer, the best time for island hopping. November to April is hotter, wetter and quieter.
