Overview

K'gari is the biggest sand island on the planet, and this is the day tour built for people who want to actually take it in rather than tick it off. Small group, purpose-built 4WD, an experienced driver guide, and an itinerary that gives the island's best spots the time they deserve.

From Noosa you leave at 6am and, tides permitting, run the beach past the Coloured Sands to Rainbow Beach; from Rainbow Beach you join at 7:30am. Then it's the vehicle ferry from Inskip Point (keep an eye out for dolphins) and north up 75 Mile Beach before the inland sand tracks wind through heath and hardwood forest to Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie). You get a proper stretch there, around an hour and a half to two hours, to swim the turquoise water over pure white silica sand and eat a fresh Aussie bush picnic with icy beer, wine or soft drinks.

After lunch: pristine rainforest under towering satinay trees, a lazy float in fast, clear Eli Creek and the rusting SS Maheno, on the beach since 1935. Morning and afternoon tea, the ferry and national park fees are all in. Back in Rainbow Beach about 4pm and Noosa about 5:30pm. The guide sets the order of stops around tides and conditions on the day.

    Yes, from age 4. The child fare (4 to 14) is $200 from Noosa or $190 from Rainbow Beach. Online checkout takes adult fares only, so for kids message us and we'll book the family at the child rate.

  • Where do I get picked up?
    From Noosa there's a free pickup from most hotels and apartments, or meet the tour at Noosa Marina, 2 Parkyn Court, Tewantin at 5:45am (free all-day parking). There are no pickups south of Noosa. From Rainbow Beach, meet at Rainbow Beach Surf Club at 7:25am.

  • Is the price going up?
    Yes, for departures from 1 April 2027: $305 from Noosa and $285 from Rainbow Beach. Departures before then stay at $295 and $275. Checkout prices your date automatically.

  • Can I start in Noosa and finish in Rainbow Beach?
    Yes: Noosa pickup with a Rainbow Beach drop-off is the Noosa fare. Book the Noosa departure and put "drop at Rainbow Beach" in your notes.

  • What should I bring?
    Swimmers, a towel, a camera and a jumper for the truck. Dress casually.

  • Is it a rough ride?
    It's real off-road 4WD, so some days are bumpy. It isn't recommended for children under 4, bad backs or necks, advanced pregnancy or anyone prone to motion sickness. There are no accessibility provisions.

  • What's the cancellation policy?
