Short answer

If you book one thing in Noosa, make it the Double Island Point Dolphin Kayak & Beach 4WD Tour from $159: a 4WD run up Teewah Beach, then a sea kayak where wild bottlenose dolphins are regulars. For the quiet side, paddle the River of Mirrors on the Noosa Everglades Guided Kayak Day Trip from $189. With three days spare, the K’gari 3-Day Tag-Along Safari from $599 is the best thing that leaves from this town.

Prices are per person in AUD, from our current listings (October 2026), and can change.

Hastings Street does linen shirts and long lunches. The trick is that two of the wildest places in Queensland sit within an hour of it: a river so still it reflects the sky, and a beach you drive on.

On the river: the Noosa Everglades

The Noosa Everglades are one of only two everglades systems on the planet, and the other one is in Florida. Tea-coloured water, dead flat, running from Lake Cootharaba up the Upper Noosa River. On a windless morning the reflection is so clean every photo looks upside down. Locals call it the River of Mirrors and for once the nickname is earned.

Paddle it. The Noosa Everglades Guided Kayak Day Trip, from $189, is a full day: cross Lake Cootharaba, stop at the Kinaba Information Centre, then push into the Everglades with a guide who knows which channel goes where. Kayak, safety gear and lunch are in, plus a swim once you’ve earned it. Return transfers from Noosa cost extra and are booked separately.

Or cruise it. The Noosa Everglades Serenity Afternoon Cruise, from $89, is two and a half hours on a boat with commentary, a free shuttle from select Noosa stops, and a lot of birds. It slots between lunch and dinner, asks nothing of your arms, and the low sun throws long colour across the water.

Kayak if you want to be in it. Cruise if you want to look at it. Skip both if you have only one day in Noosa: Double Island Point wins that fight.

On the ocean: dolphins and the headland

The Noosa Ocean Tour & Dolphin Safari, from $89, leaves from Tewantin at the river end of town, runs down the Noosa River and around the national park headland, then stops to scan the swell between the park and Sunshine Beach. Ninety minutes, maximum 12 on board. Dolphins are wild and keep their own hours, so no promises, but the headland from the sea side is worth the ticket on its own. Expect spray. For a proper dolphin day, the Double Island Point kayak below is the pick.

Double Island Point days

Double Island Point is the headland at the top of Teewah Beach, inside the Great Sandy National Park, and there’s no road. You cross the Noosa North Shore on the cable ferry, drop onto the sand and drive north with the coloured cliffs on your left and the Pacific on your right.

Kayak it. The Double Island Point Dolphin Kayak & Beach 4WD Tour, from $159, gives you the beach drive with commentary, then a casual guided sea kayak around the point and Honeymoon Bay. Wild bottlenose dolphins are regulars, turtles and rays turn up often, soldier crabs march the flats by the thousand, and in migration season whales pass right off the headland. Six hours, gear and park and ferry fees included, snacks and water on board. Nothing else out of Noosa stacks a beach drive and dolphins at paddle distance into one day.

Surf it. The Learn to Surf Safari: Noosa to Double Island Point, from $159, is the same beach run with a different payoff: a sandy point break in waist-deep water where, on a good day, waves peel for well over a kilometre. Beginners get rides measured in hundreds of metres rather than seconds. Soft boards, wetsuits, coaching, snacks and fees included, up to 20 in the group, dolphins often in the lineup. Pick this over a Main Beach lesson if you’ve never stood up on a board.

Go private. The Noosa 4WD Beach Drive & Scenic Walks Full Day, from $709, is your own customised 4WD for about seven hours: Teewah Beach, the lighthouse lookout, the Freshwater Track to Rainbow Beach, a walk at Lake Poona or the Carlo Sandblow, picnic lunch included. Priced for a private vehicle, so only with the seats filled.

Adrenaline: abseil at sunset, jump on a weekend

Noosa Sunset Abseiling, from $90, puts you on the ropes above 40 to 50 metre cliffs as the hinterland goes gold. Three hours, unlimited descents, qualified guides, a short walk from the car park. The first step backwards is the whole experience; after that it’s a view with a harness on. All ages welcome.

The Noosa Tandem 13,000ft Skydive (Weekend), from $319: up to 45 seconds of freefall at around 200km/h, then the canopy opens, it goes silent, and Noosa, Coolum Beach and the whole coast sit below you. Allow three hours with the briefing. Video and photos cost extra and there’s a weight surcharge from 94kg.

K’gari from Noosa

Noosa is the southern doorstep of K’gari (Fraser Island), the largest sand island on Earth. The trade-off: a Noosa start means a pickup around dawn and a drive north to Rainbow Beach before the ferry at Inskip Point. Our Noosa backpacker guide covers that logic.

One day, every icon. The K’gari Day Tour from Rainbow Beach or Noosa, from $279 (Noosa pickup $329), rated 4.9 on Google from 379 reviews: 75 Mile Beach, the Maheno wreck, a float down Eli Creek, a swim at Lake McKenzie, Central Station rainforest. Ferry, permits, morning tea and lunch included. Noosa pickups from 5:25am, home around 6 to 7pm.

One day, slower. The K’gari Premium Nature Day Tour, from $275 (Noosa departure $295), gives Lake McKenzie an hour and a half to two hours with a bush picnic on the sand. Max 24. Pick this if the lake is the reason you’re going.

Three days, you drive. The K’gari 3-Day Tag-Along Safari, from $599, rated 4.9 on Google from 527 reviews. You drive your own 4WD in a guided convoy up 75 Mile Beach, swim Lake McKenzie and the Champagne Pools, and camp two nights at a private dingo-fenced beach site with a campfire. Up to 8 per vehicle, max 4 vehicles. Drivers need to be 21 or over with a full licence and two years’ experience; everyone else is navigator or head of snacks. There’s a compulsory 6pm briefing the night before. Full price comparison in how much a K’gari tour costs.

Rainy day and family style: Australia Zoo

The Australia Zoo Day Tour with Noosa Transfers, from $159, is nine hours door to door with at least six inside the zoo, admission included, pickup and drop-off in Noosa. Worth it when the surf is blown out and the Everglades are getting rained on; a waste of a blue-sky day when Double Island Point is sitting right there. Every way to get there, with costs, is in Australia Zoo day trip from Noosa.

How to pick

One day: Double Island Point kayak. Beach drive, dolphins, done.

Two days: Double Island Point (kayak or surf) plus the Everglades kayak. Wild ocean, then wild river.

On a budget: the SUP and mangrove tunnel session gets you on the water for a couple of hours, stingrays in the shallows included. Add sunset abseiling if you want your heart rate up.

First surf: the Double Island Point surf safari. Long, waist-deep waves beat a crowded beach break every time.

Solo and social: the K’gari tag-along. Three days in a convoy of strangers who become a group chat by day two.

Short on time, want K’gari: the Premium Nature day if the lake matters, the Rainbow to Rainbow day if you want every icon.

Rain: Australia Zoo, or the Everglades cruise, which looks moody rather than ruined in drizzle.

Skip: the private 4WD unless four or more of you are splitting it, and the skydive if it would be your only spend in town. The dolphin kayak costs less and fills the whole day.

Good to know

  • Getting around. Noosa is three places: Noosa Heads (Hastings Street, Main Beach, the national park), Noosaville on the river, and Tewantin further up. Most pickups are from Noosa Heads; the dolphin safari leaves from Tewantin. The coastal walk through Noosa National Park from Main Beach to Hell’s Gates is the best free thing in town.
  • Book ahead in school holidays. The Double Island Point tours cap at 20 to 25 and the ocean safari at 12, so a week out is tight in peak.
  • Tides run the show. Beach drives and K’gari itineraries move around low tide, so start times shift. Don’t book a flight for the same evening.
  • What to bring. Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat that ties on, a towel, a change of clothes, water, a dry bag for kayak days. The dolphin safari doesn’t supply raincoats or binoculars. K’gari tours ask for a jumper for the truck.
  • The town. Hostels, beaches and the rest are on our Noosa guide.

FAQs

What is the best tour in Noosa?

The Double Island Point Dolphin Kayak & Beach 4WD Tour. It’s the only day out of Noosa that stacks a Teewah Beach drive and a guided sea kayak with wild dolphins into six hours, from $159.

Will I see dolphins on a Noosa dolphin tour?

Dolphins are wild and no tour promises a sighting. Double Island Point is where bottlenose dolphins are regulars, which is why the kayak and surf safaris go there.

Kayak or cruise in the Noosa Everglades?

Kayak if you want a full day and don’t mind working for it, from $189. Cruise if you want two and a half hours, a free shuttle and someone else driving, from $89.

Can I do K’gari as a day trip from Noosa?

Yes. Two day tours pick up in Noosa around dawn and drop you back in the evening. Against a Rainbow Beach start you spend about three extra hours in a vehicle. With the days to spare, the 3-day tag-along is a better use of the drive.

Do I need to know how to surf for the Double Island Point surf safari?

No. It’s built for first-timers: soft boards, waist-deep water and a sandy bottom. Confident surfers still enjoy the length of the wave.

How many days do I need in Noosa?

Two for the town plus one or two tours. Four if you’re adding a K’gari day. A week if you’re doing the three-day tag-along and want a Main Beach day to recover.
