Overview

Stand up paddleboarding is easy to learn when the water behaves, and the water in Weyba Creek behaves. This two-hour fully guided session runs on the calm, sheltered waters of Weyba Creek Conservation Park, just behind Noosa Heads, and it's pitched at everyone from never-stood-on-a-board to already-decent. No engines, just paddles, which is why the stingrays and the birds don't leave when you arrive.

You meet your guide at the canoe launch on Weyba Esplanade, where the session starts with a briefing on the route and the local wildlife and an on-land lesson on the basics: stance, stroke and how to get back on when you fall off. Then you're on the water and the guide leads you out of the open creek into the narrow channels and winding estuaries, including the mangrove tunnels you'd never find on your own, with local commentary on what you're paddling through. Keep an eye on the sandy shallows: this is a stingray sanctuary, the birdlife is busy, and dolphins occasionally turn up. There's a nice spot along the way for a quick swim, which is completely optional.

Board, paddle and gear are supplied, including wet shirts or wetsuits and life vests. Start times vary daily because departures are set around high tide, so your exact time is confirmed when you book. Bring what you'd take to the beach: towel, sunscreen, water, swimwear and a camera, plus a change of clothes. Thongs are fine. Food isn't included, so eat first or plan a feed in Noosa after.

Common questions about this trip

  • Where do I meet and when?

At the canoe launch on Weyba Esplanade, Noosa Heads. Departure times vary daily and are set around the high tide, so your exact start time is shown when you pick your date and confirmed in your booking. Arrive a few minutes early to get fitted and briefed.
  • I've never paddleboarded. Is that a problem?

No. The session starts with a briefing and an on-land lesson on the basics before you get on the water, and Weyba Creek is calm and sheltered, which is why beginners find their feet quickly. Confident paddlers get to go further into the tunnels.
  • What should I bring and wear?

What you'd usually take to the beach: swimwear, towel, sunscreen, water, a camera and a change of clothes. Thongs are fine. Wet shirts or wetsuits and life vests are provided along with the board and paddle.
  • Do I have to swim?

No. There's a spot along the way for a quick, refreshing swim, but it's completely optional. You'll be wearing a life vest on the water either way.
  • What wildlife might I see?

Weyba Creek is a stingray sanctuary, so expect rays cruising the sandy shallows, plus native and migrating bird species in the mangroves. Dolphins occasionally come into the creek. All wild, so nothing is guaranteed.
  • What happens in bad weather?

The operator reserves the right to change or cancel tours at short notice for poor or dangerous weather and makes that call on the day. Departures are already timed around the tide, so some shifting of start times is normal.
  • Can kids come?

Younger children are taken when conditions are suitable; note their ages when you book so the operator can confirm. For young families the operator recommends a private session.
  • Is food included?

No. Nothing to eat is provided on this two-hour tour, so have a meal before you start or plan one in Noosa afterwards. Bring your own water.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

Cancel more than 7 days before departure for a full refund. From 7 days to 48 hours before there is a 20% fee, or you can take a full travel credit instead. Within 48 hours the fee is 100% and the booking cannot be rescheduled. If the operator cancels before departure for weather it will rebook you, or give a travel credit or full refund. If it cannot operate once you arrive on site, you get a 50% refund or a voucher. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.
