Overview

Most surf lessons happen wherever the surf school is parked. This one goes looking for the best learning wave on the coast: a 4WD safari from Noosa Heads, across the Noosa North Shore cable ferry and up the sand of Teewah Beach to Double Island Point, a spot you can only reach by 4WD along the beach at low tide.

The reward is a long, sandy point break inside the Great Sandy National Park: waist-deep water and waves that, on their best days, peel for well over a kilometre, so beginners get rides measured in hundreds of metres, not seconds. Small groups keep the coaching personal, the lineup is uncrowded Marine Park water, and dolphins regularly share the waves.

The day runs about six hours, with soft learner boards, wetsuits or wet shirts, instruction, park entry and ferry fees, light snacks and refreshments all included. Photos are available on request.
