Overview

Teewah Beach is 40 kilometres of open sand, four-wheel-drive only, and it is the stretch where a 4WD earns its keep: beach as highway. This is the private version. One customised vehicle, a maximum of four guests, your own local guide, and a full day out of Noosa Heads with no bus and no schedule set by someone else. The guide shapes the stops around what your group wants.

The day starts at your Noosa accommodation. You cross the Noosa River by ferry to the North Shore and hit the Great Beach Drive along Teewah Beach, past the coloured sand cliffs that the Cooloola section of Great Sandy National Park is known for. At Double Island Point there is the optional walk up to the 1884 lighthouse, 2.2 kilometres return and steep, with views from K'gari round to Noosa on a clear day, plus dolphins and turtles below and humpbacks in the cooler months. The full day pushes on to Rainbow Beach and Carlo Sandblow, a 15 hectare wind-blown sand mass with views over the Coloured Sands, Double Island Point and K'gari, or inland on the Freshwater Track through rainforest to the perched Lake Poona. Picnic lunch is included, with time to swim.

Allow around seven hours. Pick-up and drop-off from your Noosa accommodation, beach driving permits and national park fees are all included, and a car seat can be supplied for kids under 7. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, water, comfortable shoes, swimmers and a camera. Start times move with the tides, and the guide confirms yours before the day.

1 Pick-up · Your Noosa accommodation to the North Shore ferry

Your guide collects you at your accommodation and crosses the Noosa River by ferry to Noosa North Shore. The start time depends on the tide and is confirmed by the guide.

The Great Beach Drive runs north on 40 km of open, 4WD-only sand past the coloured sand cliffs, with stops for wildlife and a swim where the group wants one.

1 Double Island Point · Optional lighthouse walk

A short, steep 2.2 km return walk up to the 1884 lighthouse with 360-degree views. Look for dolphins, turtles and manta rays off the headland, and humpback whales in the cooler months.

Common questions about this trip

  • Where do I get picked up and when?

Your guide picks you up from your accommodation in the Noosa region and drops you back at the end of the day. Start times depend on the tide for beach driving, so the guide confirms your pick-up time before the day.
  • What should I bring?

Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, water, comfortable shoes and a camera. Pack swimmers and a towel if you want to swim. Lunch and refreshments are supplied.
  • How many people are in the vehicle?

A maximum of four guests per vehicle, and it is private, so it is just your group and your guide. Pricing is per group rather than per seat.
  • How fit do I need to be?

The walks are optional and shaped around your group. The lighthouse walk is 2.2 km return and steep, the Carlo Sandblow walk is up to 2.8 km one way through forest onto open sand, and the Lake Poona walk is 4.2 km return on a graded track. If you would rather stay on the beach and swim, that works too.
  • Is it suitable for kids or people needing extra support?

Yes. A car seat can be supplied for children under 7. Registered assistance dogs and wheelchairs can be accommodated; tell us what you need when you book so the guide can plan the day.
  • What happens if the weather turns?

Tours run in most weather when it is safe. If conditions force a change, the operator offers an alternative route, another date or a full refund.
  • What costs extra?

Very little. Permits, park fees, the ferry, lunch and refreshments are covered. The operator offers an optional scenic media package as a paid add-on.
  • When is the best time of year?

It runs year round. Humpback whales pass Double Island Point in the cooler months, and dolphins and turtles are in the water off the headland all year. Summer is best for swimming; the beach drive itself is set by the tide rather than the season.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

Cancel more than 2 days before the tour for a full refund, and within 2 days there is no refund. You can request a date change up to 7 days before, but it is not guaranteed. If the operator changes the tour for weather, tides or safety, it gives an alternative tour or a full refund. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.

"The only time I ever leave a review is when something has significantly exceeded my expectations and the Sunny Jeeps tour we took did exactly that. From start to finish (the tour lasted around 6 hours) every aspect was perfect."

"We did the Beach adventure and it was so much fun! … genuinely friendly, not in a scripted tour-guide way, just a real person who clearly loves what she does and knows Noosa inside out. She had stories and local knowledge about everything we passed and made the whole group feel like mates pretty quickly."
