Overview

Double Island Point is a headland at the top of Teewah Beach, inside the Great Sandy National Park, and the only way there is by 4WD along the sand. That drive is half the tour: across the Noosa North Shore cable ferry, then up the beach with local commentary, watching for shorebirds, birds of prey and whatever is moving offshore.

Then you swap the truck for a sea kayak. The guided paddle is a casual one, in the clear water around Double Island Point and Honeymoon Bay, where wild bottlenose dolphins are regulars. Turtles, rays and soldier crabs in their thousands are frequent sightings, and in migration season whales pass right by the headland.

It's about six hours all up and low-impact on the animals: you watch them in their own water, on their terms. Kayaks and equipment, national park and ferry fees, light snacks and water are included.
