The route

21 days, 13 stops

This is the drive most backpackers come to Australia for. You leave the Harbour Bridge in the mirror and spend three weeks working north through surf towns, national parks and island crossings, until the rainforest meets the Reef in Far North Queensland. Head out from a different beach every morning, park up wherever the waves are good, and add the big-ticket tours where a van can't go.
