Overview

Most people see Burleigh Heads as a surf break. For the Yugambeh-speaking people it's Jellurgal, the Dreaming mountain, and this two-hour walk shows you why.

It starts with an audio-visual presentation at the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre that brings the Dreamtime stories of the land to life. Then an expert guide leads you along the beachside rainforest walkway around the headland, stopping at sacred sites and telling the Dreaming story of how Jellurgal was created.

Along the way you'll learn traditional knowledge that has shaped this coast for over 60,000 years: bush foods, survival skills and how the land was cared for. It's one of the best ways to understand the Gold Coast beyond the beach.
