The Northern Highlights is the North Island in six days. It starts in Auckland, ends in Wellington, and goes via the Coromandel's beaches, Rotorua's geysers, the Central Volcanic Plateau (home of Mt Doom) and the farmland of the Horowhenua.
The overnight stops are Auckland, Hot Water Beach, Waitomo, Rotorua, Taupo and Wellington. The sectors run Auckland to Hot Water Beach, then Waitomo, Rotorua and Taupo, followed by a free day in Taupo before the final leg down to Wellington.
It suits travellers who only want the North Island, or who want a short first pass before heading south. It's a hop-on hop-off pass from Kiwi Experience, and the finish in Wellington sets you up for the Cook Strait.
