Sunrise at Angkor Wat
Phnom Penh & the history
Tonlé Sap floating villages
Southern island beach days
Khmer cooking + street food
Small group, solo-friendly
Arrive in Phnom Penh and meet your group and your tour leader, settle in before your first night out together as the adventure begins.
Today will start with a tuk tuk tour through the colourful, busy streets of Phnom Penh. You'll then pay a visit to two locations that played a pivotal role in Cambodia's sad and troubled history - the S21 Prison, and the Killing Fields. The stories and history you'll learn here will be difficult, however also necessary to understand Cambodia's past, including the brutal reign of the Khmer Rouge. This evening, dinner, drinks and a night out Phnom Penh style are on the agenda. 🌱 Small Change: Explore Cambodia's history on a profound level with a visit to S21 Prison and the Killing Fields.
Swapping city streets for laid back country roads, today you'll travel to the peaceful countryside province of Kampot, your home for the next two nights. 🌱 Small Change: As you kayak, each group collects waste to keep rivers and mangroves clean.
Fun fact - Kampot is famed for producing some of the best pepper in the world. You'll be putting that theory to the test this morning as you visit a pepper plantation.
Never had Cambodia down as much of a beach destination? Just wait until you get to Koh Rong Sanloem. You'll travel by train and fast ferry to reach this island, where you'll be checking in to island accommodation that is owned by the Chief of the village! 🌱 Small Change: During your stay in Koh Rong, your group will help protect the environment with regular beach clean ups.
It's all aboard a private long tail boat this morning as you head out to uncover some of the island's best snorkel spots. Expect to find yourself chilling out on secluded beaches, or exploring the colourful underwater world as you swim with tropical fish. This evening's sunset will be the perfect time to reflect on another ridiculously awesome day together.
Waking up on your last day in Koh Rong Sanloem, you'll spend the morning relaxing on the beach. You'll then catch the ferry back to the mainland for dinner before boarding an overnight bus bound for Siem Reap. With fully reclining beds and air con, this is bus travelling in style.
Arrive in Siem Reap in the morning. From there you'll venture out to the rural areas and discover some traditional floating villages surrounded by lush rice fields, lotus flowers and flooded forests.
Saving the best for last, today's the day you'll get to cast eyes on the 8th Wonder of the World. Built in the first half of the 12th century, Angkor Wat is one of the oldest and largest temples in the world. You'll explore the site and learn the history with a local guide, and maybe even reenact your favourite Tomb Raider scenes as you visit Ta Prohm, a temple that featured in the movie. 🌱 Small Change: By sponsoring an APOPO Hero Rat, the trip helps make Cambodian communities safer. These trained rats detect landmines, allowing teams to clear dangerous areas and protect lives. Today, you will visit Apopo to see the 'Hero Rats' in action.
Your 10 day trip ends today. Those flying home will make their way to the airport, or keep living the dream and extend your stay in Cambodia or South East Asia with your tour leader's help and the new friends you've made.
