Overview

You launch yourself from a platform 109 metres above the Shotover River. The system gives you 60 metres of vertical freefall down the rocky cliff face, about four seconds of it, followed by a 200 metre swing out across the canyon. It is the solo option: just you, the drop and the crew. The swing lasts a couple of minutes before you are winched back up to the platform.

You choose how you go. There are numerous jump styles, each a different thrill, and the difference here is freedom: you can step off yourself, or be released by the crew. The jump masters are not there to rush or crowd you, and they will talk you through managing your fear before you go. Confident or timid, they will get you out there, and plenty of people go back for a second style once they have done the first.

Check in at 34 Shotover Street in the middle of Queenstown, where a health declaration is required. Transport out to the site is included, and it is about 10 minutes from town. The whole experience takes about 2 hours, so allow 2.5, most of which is getting there, getting ready and recovering. Minimum age is 10. There is no minimum weight, but you have to fit the harness. It runs in all weather, and only extreme conditions like high winds or storms cause a delay or reschedule. Wear closed-toe shoes.

Common questions about this trip

  • Where do I check in?

Check in at 34 Shotover Street in the middle of Queenstown, where transport out to the canyon is included. A health declaration is required at check-in, including any physical injuries. The site itself is about 10 minutes from town.
  • How long does it take?

About 2 hours, but allow 2.5 in case. The freefall is roughly four seconds, then you swing for up to a couple of minutes before being winched back up. The rest is transport, safety briefing and waiting for your turn on the platform.
  • What are the age and weight rules?

Minimum age is 10. Ages 10 to 13 need a parent or guardian with them who signs the declaration; ages 14 to 15 need a parent or guardian to sign but not to attend. There is no minimum weight, but you must fit the harness. A maximum weight applies.
  • What should I wear?

Closed-toe shoes, and dress for the weather on the day. The jump operates in all conditions, so bring a warm layer in winter.
  • What if the weather is bad?

It runs in all weather conditions. In extreme weather such as high winds or storms the operator may delay or reschedule swings, and they decide on the day.
  • Can I jump if I have a medical condition or am pregnant?

You must disclose medical conditions on the health declaration at check-in, including pregnancy, back injuries, previous dislocations, high blood pressure, asthma, epilepsy and head injuries. Not every condition rules you out, but the crew are not medical professionals, so check with your doctor first.
  • What costs extra?

Photos and video. The package includes professionally edited videos and still images and is bought on the day. A second jump in a different style is also an add-on paid on the day.
  • How many jump styles are there?

Many, and the crew will run you through the options on the platform. You can pick from a step-off, being released by the crew, and a range of other styles that suit your nerve on the day.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms for this trip are set by the operator and confirmed on your booking voucher. Refunds mirror the operator's policy, if they can refund, so can we. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf. Message us for the exact day-by-day terms before you book.
