Hobbiton and Rotorua's geothermal country are normally two separate trips. This one runs both in a day, starting with a hotel pick-up in a comfortable minibus and a guided drive south through the Waikato.
At Hobbiton you take the two and a half hour guided tour of the set, visit 44 hobbit holes and finish with a cold drink at the Green Dragon Inn. Then on to Rotorua via Tirau, the corrugated iron sculpture capital, and Fitzgerald Glade, with a guided pass of Lake Rotorua, the Government Gardens, the Blue Baths and Polynesian Spa. The afternoon is Wai-O-Tapu: Champagne Pool, Devil's Bath, mud pools and geothermal craters, all with a guide.
Entry to both attractions is included, plus refreshments and snacks while driving, wifi and charging ports on board, and a safety or booster seat for children aged 7 and under. Hotel pick-up covers specific central Auckland hotels only.
