Kakadu and Litchfield are the Top End's two headline parks, usually sold separately. This trip refuses to make you choose: three days, both parks, and a swimming itinerary that reads like a Top End wishlist.
The Kakadu act delivers the culture and the big country, a wildlife cruise on Corroboree Billabong, ancient Indigenous rock art, Ubirr's views over the Nardab floodplains into Arnhem Land, and swims at Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) and Gunlom Falls. Then Litchfield plays the crowd-pleasers: the cathedral and magnetic termite mounds, the cascading spa-pools of Buley Rockhole, and Wangi Falls for the final float.
Camps come with safari tents or swags (pillow and sheet included), toilets and showers at every site, a screened dining area and fresh, healthy meals across the three days. Park fees are covered; sleeping bags hire for $35. Groups of 5 to 16, BYO pre-mixed cans only. Pack a towel that dries fast, it'll work hard.

Pick-up is at 6:30 to 6:45am from your accommodation in Darwin. First stop is a wildlife cruise on Corroboree Billabong, a great place to see crocodiles and plenty of birdlife in their natural habitat. From there you drive into Kakadu National Park and stop for a picnic lunch near the East Alligator River, where you might spot crocs and flying foxes. Next is Ubirr in the north of the park, home to some of the best rock art in northern Australia. Your guide explains the paintings and what they mean, and the climb to the top rewards you with 360 degree views over the Nardab floodplains and into Arnhem Land. Tonight you camp at an exclusive safari camp at Mardugal Billabong in the heart of Kakadu, with an open campfire, a cool drink and toasted marshmallows. Walking: about 3 km. Meals: lunch and dinner.
Rise early for a big day of waterfalls and walks. After breakfast you head to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a 1 km hike through a paperbark forest, with some rock scrambling, leads to a plunge pool for a cool swim in pristine surroundings. Next is Gunlom Falls in the southern end of Kakadu, where a hike to the top is rewarded with a swim in the natural infinity pools and panoramic views of southern Kakadu. The bottom plunge pool is a must-see and a great place to relax on the beach. You finish with a short hike and swim at Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole), a permit area with very few visitors (time permitting). Tonight you camp at the private safari camp on the border of Litchfield National Park. Walking: about 4 km. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Another early start takes you to Litchfield National Park, where you learn about the Cathedral and Magnetic mounds common in the region and hike and swim at Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls and Wangi Falls. You are back in Darwin at about 5:30pm. Walking: about 2 km. Meals: breakfast and lunch. The itinerary can run in reverse at the guide's discretion, and it can change with seasonal or extreme weather, park road or attraction closures and the cultural commitments of the traditional owners. All tours must be reconfirmed 24 hours before travel.
