Overview

Kakadu is World Heritage listed for both its wildlife and its culture, and this day tour covers both from Darwin. You travel in an air-conditioned mini coach with an experienced guide who tells the stories of the land, its animals and its First Nations people along the way. The day covers about 620km of driving and 2km of walking, with regular photo stops.

The morning is at Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, a wetland with boardwalks and observation decks that is great for birdwatching. Lunch is a stop at Corroboree Park Tavern (at your own cost), then the Bowali Visitor Centre for Aboriginal art and an introduction to the park, and Cahills Crossing, one of the best places in the region to spot saltwater crocodiles from a safe vantage point, conditions permitting.

The finale is Ubirr Rock, with a guided walk through the rock art galleries and sweeping views across the floodplains. If Ubirr is inaccessible, the guide visits Nourlangie Rock instead. From November to April the itinerary can change with rain and road conditions.

"Glad we did this tour as it showed us something incredibly different. Cahills Crossing was jaw dropping at the size of the crocs and the amount there. Ubirr was really cool seeing the rock art."
