Overview

Kangaroo Island in two days, without hiring a car. You're collected from selected Adelaide hotels between 6.30 and 6.45am, ride to Cape Jervis, and take the 45-minute ferry across (watch for dolphins). A small group of up to 16 travels in a Kangaroo Island coaster with an experienced guide, and the itinerary is planned so you spend no more than about 45 minutes on the bus at a time.

Day one covers Prospect Hill's views, a short koala walk at Duck Lagoon, free time in Kingscote, lunch at Kangaroo Island Brewery, the Kangaroo Island Beehive (taste honey from the island's pure Ligurian bees), and a swim at Stokes Bay. The night is at Camp Groovy, with dinner at camp (vegetarian options available). This listing is the communal shared bell tent, up to four to a tent, with comfortable beds and linen. Private bell tents and ensuite rooms are available as upgrades from the operator.

Day two starts with breakfast, then Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch (look for New Zealand fur seals), a picnic lunch, the dunes of Little Sahara (sandboards and toboggans can be hired) and a guided walk with a ranger among endangered Australian sea lions at Seal Bay. You catch the evening ferry back and reach Adelaide at about 9pm.

"The tour to Kangaroo Island was amazing. Our Tourguide … explained everything so well and showed us the most beautifull places of the island. A real bonus was getting to Remarkable rocks and Admirals arch early. Nobody was there so we could really appreciate its beauty in peace, which added to it’s magic."
