Overview

The Kea Pass is built for people short on time but not short on ambition. It starts in Wellington, crosses the Cook Strait to the South Island, and covers most of what makes the south worth the trip in about 14 days.

The route goes Wellington to Abel Tasman, Westport, Lake Mahinapua (a seasonal stop) and Franz Josef, with a free day at the glacier. Then it's Queenstown, with another free day, followed by Lake Tekapo, Christchurch, Kaikoura and back to Wellington. The finish is an express service from Wellington to Auckland via Taupo and Rotorua.

It suits travellers who want the South Island loop plus a taste of the North, ending in Auckland. It's a hop-on hop-off pass from Kiwi Experience, with the two free days built in so you can do more than look out the window.
