The coast-to-coast crossing, run east. You leave Perth for the Wheatbelt and arrive in Adelaide ten days later having slept in a swag every night: eight with basic facilities and one on the Nullarbor with none at all, which is the one you'll remember.
The first days are Western Australia showing off: the giant dam mural at Wellington Dam, Collie's mural trail, Wave Rock, silo art at Ravensthorpe, then two nights camped by the beach at Lucky Bay, where kangaroos wander the shoreline and Frenchman Peak is there for the climbing. Then the Nullarbor: Norseman, the 90 Mile Straight, a remote bush camp under a serious sky, the Bunda Cliffs, the Dingo Fence and Yalata country to the windmill town of Penong.
South Australia's Eyre Peninsula brings a two-hour surf lesson at Streaky Bay, a farm-stay night in swag huts, the optional Baird Bay sea lion and dolphin swim, Coffin Bay National Park and Port Lincoln, a hands-on conservation morning, then a final night in Mount Remarkable National Park and a Clare Valley wine tasting on the run into Adelaide. Nine breakfasts, three lunches, seven dinners and all park fees are included; it's a 20-seat air-conditioned bus.

Leave Perth early and head southeast into the Wheatbelt as the city gives way to farmland and country towns. First stop is Wellington Dam and the world's largest dam mural, painted straight onto the wall in the forested setting of Wellington National Park. Lunch in Collie, with a wander along its mural trail of more than forty large artworks. By late afternoon you arrive at Wave Rock, the giant curved granite wave. Camp nearby, share dinner and roll out your swag for the first night.
Start with the Wave Rock Circuit Walk, which takes you beyond the wave itself through rock formations, salt lakes and native bushland. Head east as the dry inland country shifts towards the coast, stopping in Ravensthorpe for colourful silo art and Esperance for supplies and your first proper look at the Southern Ocean. Set up camp right near the beach at Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grand National Park: white sand, clear turquoise water and kangaroos on the shoreline. The evening is yours.
Wake with the beach a short walk from camp, and kangaroos possibly wandering the shoreline. Early birds can climb Frenchman Peak for sweeping views to the islands of the Recherche Archipelago. The rest of the day is yours to swim the bays, walk the trails or claim a quiet stretch of sand, with barely any driving. Second night at Lucky Bay.
Leave the coast behind and start the Nullarbor crossing. After a stop in Norseman you hit the 90 Mile Straight, the longest straight stretch of road in Australia, with huge skies and endless horizons. Your guide shares stories of the region, from early explorers to remote life today. Tonight you reach a remote bush camp with no reception, no facilities and barely any artificial light, so the stars are as bright as they get on the trip.
Continue across the Nullarbor past the famous wildlife-crossing sign to the Bunda Cliffs, where the flat outback drops into the Southern Ocean along more than 200km of coastline. Cross the Dingo Fence and travel through Yalata Aboriginal lands to the small outback town of Penong, known for its giant windmills and laid-back feel. There is the option to head to the local pub for dinner before settling into camp.
Visit Penong's windmill museum and the giant windmill known as Bruce, then head to the coast for a two-hour surf lesson with the Streaky Bay Surf School on long, uncrowded beaches, whether it is your first time on a board or not. Grab lunch in town, then continue south along the Eyre Peninsula coast to Coodlie Park Farm Retreat, with outdoor swag huts and resident animals. Dinner is around the campfire, with optional stargazing under some of the darkest skies in Australia.
Start early for the optional Baird Bay swim with wild Australian sea lions and bottlenose dolphins, by boat into sheltered water. Nothing is staged and nothing is fed: the sea lions are playful and curious and the dolphins move through the bay nearby. If you are not swimming, relax around Baird Bay until the group regathers. Lunch is included for swimmers, then you head south past remote beaches, rugged cliffs and quiet coastal towns to Camp Nyroca, surrounded by bushland and birdlife.
Explore Coffin Bay National Park, with bright white beaches, rugged coastline and calm turquoise bays, on the relaxed Oyster Walk coastal trail. Continue to Port Lincoln for lunch, then to Fishery Bay, a quieter stretch of coast with rocky headlands and clear water. Go searching for wild koalas among the local gum trees, then join Barngarla woman Emmalene Richards for a cultural experience sharing stories of Country, culture and connection to land and sea. Camp in Lincoln National Park.
Start with a hands-on conservation experience in the Port Lincoln region (location and activities vary with weather and local conditions), supporting community-led care of the local environment. Then cross the Eyre Peninsula via Tumby Bay and Cowell, both known for colourful silo art. After lunch, head for Mount Remarkable National Park in the Southern Flinders Ranges for one last night together under the stars.
One last walk through Mount Remarkable National Park, past sandstone ridges, river red gums and native wildlife. Then south through the Clare Valley, one of South Australia's best-known wine regions, for lunch and a final group wine tasting. Arrive back in Adelaide in the late afternoon.

"A few of the many highlights: Whistling Caves near Streaky Bay sounded like an ogre roaring through the rock fissures; Cape le Grand National Park – a sea eagle over the headland and amazing lighting effects as the sun peeked through the rain-clouds over the turquoise sea; a family of emus in the sweet bushland of the southern Flinders Ranges; the granite peaks of Castle Rock in Porongorup National Park."

"Camping in the Outback was a real adventure. In addition to impressive hikes, we were also able to discover some small villages. The organization went absolutely smoothly, from start to finish."
