Overview

Getting from Queenstown to Christchurch takes a day anyway, so this takes the long way past the best of it. You go through the Kawarau Gorge, across Lake Dunstan from Cromwell and over Lindis Pass, 971 metres above sea level, one of only three alpine roads through the Southern Alps.

Next come the plains of the Mackenzie district, Omarama and Lake Pukaki, one of the bluest lakes you will see, with Aoraki/Mt Cook behind it. At Mt Cook village you get roughly 2.5 to 3 hours of free time for walks or an optional activity such as a scenic flight with a glacier landing. Then it's the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo and the run into Christchurch, with drop-offs at your chosen location.

Groups are capped at 16. Bottled water and snacks are provided, with a safety or booster seat for kids aged 7 and under. Lunch is not included.
