Know before you book a New Zealand multi-day tour

Fixed dates versus your dates. The group trips depart on set dates, so match the departure to your flights rather than the other way round. The private tours run when you want them.

Season. Summer (December to February) is the busy, warm window; winter brings snow to the South Island and shorter days, and alpine walks like the Tongariro Alpine Crossing are weather dependent year-round. Pack layers and a rain jacket in any month.

What's not included. Flights into the country and travel insurance are on you, and most meals are extra on every trip.
