Overview

Three days, three tours out of Hobart, without being stuck on a bus all day. This is a package of the operator's daily departures: you choose the start date, and Hobart Highlights always runs on a Saturday. You're then assigned to the Bruny Island and Port Arthur tours on the other two days, in no set order. The week of the tour the operator confirms your pick-up details, and pick-up times and places differ from day to day.

Hobart Highlights is a city loop with commentary, up kunanyi (Mt Wellington) to 1,272m, Salamanca Market (Saturday only), the Coal River Valley, Richmond and the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can meet kangaroos and Tasmanian devils. The Bruny Island day is an easy to moderate active morning of nature walks, lookouts and beaches, with lunch at your own cost and a few local stops (the operator varies the itinerary with the weather). The Port Arthur day runs from Pirates Bay lookout and the Dog Line at Eaglehawk Neck through the Tasmanian Chocolate Foundry and a lavender farm to the Port Arthur Historic Site, back in Hobart around 5.30pm.

Included are Bonorong entry, Port Arthur entry, the Bruny Island national park pass and ferry, air-conditioned minibus transport and hotel pick-up within 5km of central Hobart. Accommodation, food and drink are not included.

"I particularly enjoyed the stop at the Lavender Farm, which was a wonderful addition to the day and a great opportunity to experience another side of Tasmania. Port Arthur itself was confronting, beautiful and deeply moving. It is a place that everyone visiting Tasmania should experience, and having the time to explore and reflect made it even more memorable."
