Overview

Some flights pick a highlight. This one refuses: in 1 hour 45 minutes out of Kalbarri Airport you get the coast, the islands, the pink lake and the gorges, the full greatest-hits album of Australia's mid-west, no landing, no filler.

The route reads like a dare: the Murchison River mouth, the coastal cliffs and Bluff Point, then out to sea for a 20-minute low-level pass over the Abrolhos Islands, East Wallabi, West Wallabi and the Super Tubes surf break, with coral glowing up through the shallows. Then the showstopper: Hutt Lagoon, a lake turned genuinely pink by carotenoid-producing algae, which looks fake in photos and better in person. The return leg tracks the river gorges of Kalbarri National Park.
