Overview

Castaway is one of the best-known resorts in the Mamanucas, and it only takes 20 day-trippers a day, so it never feels like a day-trip crowd. The catamaran leaves Port Denarau at 9.30am, drops guests at other resorts on the way, and you're welcomed ashore by your day host.

You get five hours on the island. There are two beaches with coral reef straight off the sand, two freshwater pools (one with a swim-up bar), bars, a boutique and island massage. Snorkel gear, kayaks, paddleboards and sailing are included (the resort takes a refundable deposit), and motorised water sports and the kids' club cost extra.

Lunch is a two-course à la carte or buffet meal; drinks are extra. Ask for a vegetarian option when you book. The boat has you back at Port Denarau around 6pm, and the return coach to most Nadi, Denarau and Wailoaloa hotels is included.

Common questions about this trip

  • What time does it leave and return?

The catamaran leaves Port Denarau at 9.30am and is back around 6pm, with five hours on the island. Your hotel coach pickup is earlier; we confirm the time with your booking.
  • Is it good for kids?

Yes. Children 5 to 15 pay a child rate, under-5s travel free (their meals are paid at the resort), and there's a kids' club for 3 to 12 year olds at extra cost.
  • What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, a hat, and a card or cash for drinks and extras.
  • Is there a fuel surcharge?

Yes. The ferry operator charges a fuel surcharge on this day trip, currently FJ$10 per adult and FJ$5 per child, paid at the check-in counter at Port Denarau in Fijian dollars.
  • How does the hotel pickup work?

The free coach runs from most Nadi, Denarau, Vuda and Wailoaloa hotels, and seats must be booked at least 24 hours ahead (we do it with your booking). Be at the pickup point 15 minutes early: drivers can't wait. Miss it and you'll need your own way to Port Denarau.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms for this trip are set by the operator and confirmed on your booking voucher. Refunds mirror the operator's policy, if they can refund, so can we. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf. Message us for the exact day-by-day terms before you book.
