Overview

Cradle Mountain is Tasmania's alpine heart and a World Heritage site. This day tour leaves Launceston, stops in Sheffield, the Town of Murals, then heads into the mountains for about 4 to 5 hours in the national park, with the walking plan kept flexible for the weather and the group.

You start with the short Enchanted Walk along Pencil Pine Creek. The main walk is your choice: the Dove Lake Circuit, a 6km easy-to-moderate track of 2 to 3 hours beneath the mountain, or the climb to Marion's Lookout, a medium-grade walk of about 4km with 360 degree views. Lunch is a rest stop in the park, where wombats are often about, and the group also visits Weindorfer's Chalet and the King Billy pines. On the way home you stop at a raspberry farm cafe and ice creamery, returning to Launceston around 6pm.

Cradle Mountain's weather changes fast, and snow is possible even in summer, so pack layers. National park entry is included. Meals, snacks and drinks are not.

"Length of visit is just fine as we have enough time for different segments of the cradle mountain visit. Crowd size is about 10 people so we are equally entertained by the tour guide during the dove lake circuit tour."
