Overview

An early start from Hobart takes you straight to the Tasman Peninsula, home to Australia's highest sea cliffs. The day opens with the view from Pirates Bay lookout and stories from Eaglehawk Neck and the Dogline, then one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks: a 2km track along the Waterfall Bay cliff top, ending at the rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen.

Port Arthur Historic Site gets about four hours. Your entry includes a harbour cruise around the Isle of the Dead, a podcast introduction to the site and free site talks led by Port Arthur's guides, covering the grim history of the early penal system.

On the way back you stop at the historic township of Richmond to wander the streets and cross Australia's oldest bridge still in use, built by convicts. The tour returns to your Hobart accommodation around 6pm. Port Arthur entry is included; food and drink are not, but there are cafes at the site or you can bring your own.
