Overview

This one is pure diving, no course. If you're already certified and want to tick off the dives people talk about, the package gives you five of them from Mantaray Island Resort on Nanuya Balavu Island: a deep dive, a night dive, a shark dive, a wreck dive and one more.

All dive gear is included, slip-on shorty fins too, and you can buy extra dives or nights on the island. In between there's a house reef right off the front of the resort, a pool, a hilltop restaurant and a beach bar, and from May to October mantas feed in the nearby channel.

Coach transfers and the return ferry are included, plus a full-day Malamala Beach Club pass for before or after and a welcome pack with a sulu, drink bottle and waterproof bag. Sleep in the 32-bed air-con Paradise Dorm, a treehouse bure (shared bathroom), or a seaside bure, reef bure, family reef bure or beachfront villa with your own bathroom. Meals are on the resort's compulsory meal plan, paid on the island.

Itinerary at a glance

1 Day 1 · Ferry to Mantaray Island

Hotel coach and the 8.45am catamaran from Port Denarau, on the island around 11.35am. Check in and meet the dive team.

2 Days 2 to 4 · Five dives

Your deep, night, shark and wreck dives plus one more, scheduled by the dive team around conditions. Between dives, snorkel the house reef, or swim with the mantas if they're in the channel (May to October).

5 Day 5 · Back to Denarau

A last morning on the island, then the mid-afternoon boat to Port Denarau, in at about 6pm. No flying for 24 hours after your last dive.

Common questions about this trip

  • Is this a course?
    No, there's no certification. It's five guided dives for divers who already hold a certification. If you want a card, look at the SSI Advanced course on the same island.

  • Any medical rules?
    If you've ever had asthma or epilepsy, you need a doctor's medical clearance to dive. Age and medical restrictions apply to all scuba diving, and you'll complete a medical questionnaire with the dive operator.

  • Do I need special insurance?
    Yes. Your travel insurance must cover scuba diving.

  • Are meals included?
    No. Mantaray Island Resort runs a compulsory meal plan, paid on the island in Fijian dollars, and adds a resort fuel surcharge (currently FJ$10 per person per night).

  • Is there a fuel surcharge?
    Yes. The ferry operator sets it monthly, currently FJ$20 per person, and it's paid locally before you board rather than included in this price. Budget for it in Fijian dollars.

  • How is the booking confirmed?
    Island beds are confirmed on request, and we come back to you within 48 hours. If your dates can't be confirmed, you don't pay for it.

  • What's the cancellation policy?
    For Welcome and Departure Packs, there is no fee 31 or more days out, 50% from 15 to 30 days, and full charge at 14 days or less. For packages and island stays, the deposit is non-refundable 81 or more days out, the higher of 10% or the deposit applies from 46 to 80 days, and 100% applies at 45 days or less. Date changes up to 80 days out have no amendment fee. The operator can cancel vessel departures or vary itineraries for adverse conditions. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.
