Overview

This is the far end of the ferry line. Blue Lagoon Beach Resort sits on Nacula Island on one of the beaches that fringe the Blue Lagoon, and the water off the front is deep enough for swimming and snorkelling at any tide. The catamaran gets you in around 1.15pm, which leaves the afternoon for the lagoon and a hammock.

The sand-floor restaurant and bar are the social centre, the kitchen leans on local ingredients, and the resort works closely with the nearby village. Snorkels, paddleboards and kayaks are free. Paid trips include the Sawa-i-Lau limestone caves, scuba diving and village visits.

Room choice is wide: 12-bed air-conditioned dorms with bunks or single beds, the Bula Lodge rooms (shared bathroom, fan), garden villas, a yurt-style family suite, two-bedroom garden villas, deluxe beachfront villas and the two-bedroom Palms Villa on the sand. One night here is tight, because the same boat that drops you off picks you up next day at the same time. Return ferry and Nadi hotel coach are included; meals are on the compulsory meal plan, paid at the resort.

Itinerary at a glance

1 Day 1 · Port Denarau to Blue Lagoon Beach Resort

Hotel coach to Port Denarau, check in at the terminal at least 30 minutes before the 8.45am catamaran, then north through the islands. It's the long run to the top of the chain, arriving on Nacula Island around 1.15pm. Late lunch, then the lagoon: snorkel off the beach, take a kayak out, and watch the light go from the sand.

2 Day 2 · Blue Lagoon Beach Resort to Port Denarau

Breakfast and a last swim. If the caves trip runs that morning, it's your best chance to see Sawa-i-Lau. The southbound boat collects you around 1.15pm. The catamaran is back at Port Denarau around 6pm, and the coach drops you at your hotel.

Common questions about this trip

  • Is one night enough?

It's a taste. The ferry drops you around 1.15pm and collects you at the same time the next day, so you get an afternoon, an evening and a morning. Ask us about extra nights if you want time for the caves.
  • Are the Sawa-i-Lau caves included?

No, the caves trip is a paid activity at the resort, and the caves don't open on Sundays. Snorkels, kayaks and paddleboards are free.
  • Are meals included?

The resort is the only place to eat on the island, so it runs a compulsory meal plan, paid at the resort in Fijian dollars. It covers lunch and dinner on the day you arrive and breakfast on the day you leave. Tell us about dietary needs when you book and we'll pass them on.
  • What are the dorms like?

Two 12-bed unisex dorms in a quiet garden setting, air-conditioned, with shared bathrooms. You can pick a bunk or a single bed; they're priced differently.
  • Is there a fuel surcharge?

Yes. The ferry operator sets it monthly, currently FJ$20 per person, and it's paid locally before you board rather than included in this price. Budget for it in Fijian dollars.
  • How is the booking confirmed?

Island beds are confirmed on request with the resort, and we come back to you within 48 hours. If your date can't be confirmed, you don't pay for it.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

For Welcome and Departure Packs, there is no fee 31 or more days out, 50% from 15 to 30 days, and full charge at 14 days or less. For packages and island stays, the deposit is non-refundable 81 or more days out, the higher of 10% or the deposit applies from 46 to 80 days, and 100% applies at 45 days or less. Date changes up to 80 days out have no amendment fee. The operator can cancel vessel departures or vary itineraries for adverse conditions. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.
