Overview

Waya Island Resort is one of the newest stays in the Yasawas, and it's adults only. It sits on Waya Island at the gateway to the chain, on a quiet bay backed by forest and the island's volcanic peaks. There are just 25 villas and bures, so it's calm, built for couples and solo travellers who want a proper bed and a pool.

Meals are included in the price, which is rare out here. Spend the day by the pool or in the day spa, or get out: guided snorkelling around Waya's reefs, a manta swim in season (May to October), a sunrise hike to the hills behind the resort or the longer climb to the peak, paddleboarding, kayaking, village and school visits, weaving and Fijian cooking demonstrations.

All three room types are air-conditioned with a king bed (the deluxe villa can be twin): the deluxe garden bure with peak views from the patio, the deluxe villa, and the deluxe oceanfront villa on the water. The catamaran arrives around 10.50am and leaves at about 3.50pm next day. Return ferry and Nadi hotel coach are included.

Common questions about this trip

  • Are meals really included?

Yes. Waya's current rates include meals for your stay (lunch and dinner on arrival day, breakfast before you leave), for travel to 31 March 2027. Drinks are extra.
  • Is it adults only?

Yes. There are no dorms either: every room is a private, air-conditioned bure or villa for up to two adults.
  • Can I swim with mantas from here?

The resort lists manta swims between May and October. They depend on the mantas being in the area and aren't guaranteed.
  • Is there a fuel surcharge?

Yes. The ferry operator sets it monthly, currently FJ$20 per person, and it's paid locally before you board rather than included in this price. Budget for it in Fijian dollars.
  • How is the booking confirmed?

Island beds are confirmed on request with the resort, and we come back to you within 48 hours. If your date can't be confirmed, you don't pay for it.
  • What's the cancellation policy?

For Welcome and Departure Packs, there is no fee 31 or more days out, 50% from 15 to 30 days, and full charge at 14 days or less. For packages and island stays, the deposit is non-refundable 81 or more days out, the higher of 10% or the deposit applies from 46 to 80 days, and 100% applies at 45 days or less. Date changes up to 80 days out have no amendment fee. The operator can cancel vessel departures or vary itineraries for adverse conditions. Wanderlust handles the refund for you, refunds mirror the operator's terms 1:1 (including if the operator cancels) and we chase it on your behalf.
