Kakadu and Litchfield tours from Darwin are the reason most people come to the Top End: waterfall pools you can actually swim in, rock art tens of thousands of years old, floodplains full of birds, and crocodiles big enough to reset your idea of what a reptile is.

The lineup runs from a Litchfield day trip with a jumping crocodile cruise from $209, through a three-day camping trip, to a max-eight all-inclusive Kakadu trip, plus a five-day 4WD expedition quoted on enquiry.
Litchfield is built for swimming. Wangi Falls, Florence Falls and the stepped pools of Buley Rockhole are a short walk from the car park. Kakadu makes you work: the best pools (Maguk, Gunlom, Jim Jim Falls) sit behind corrugated 4WD tracks and hot, rocky walks.
The cultural side is just as big. Ubirr and Nourlangie hold rock art galleries with views across the floodplains into Arnhem Land. Wildlife cruises on Corroboree Billabong or Yellow Waters put you at water level with crocs and sea eagles.
The Litchfield Waterfalls & Jumping Crocodile Cruise from $209 is the one-day answer: swim Wangi, Florence and Buley Rockhole, bush lunch, then a private jumping crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River before you are back in Darwin by late afternoon. Capped at 24; park pass bought separately.
The Kakadu & Litchfield Tour - Camping is the three-day best-of-both: a Corroboree Billabong cruise, Ubirr's rock art, swims at Maguk and Gunlom, then Litchfield's Buley Rockhole and Wangi Falls, with camps, meals and park fees sorted. Groups of 5 to 16, sleeping bag hire $35. The pick for most backpackers.
The 4WD Kakadu Tour - Camping (price on request) is the same three days spent entirely in Kakadu, for the fit and active: 4WD in to Jim Jim Falls (Motor Car Falls if closed), Maguk, Gunlom, the lookout hike above Nourlangie and sunset at Ubirr.
The 4WD Kakadu & Koolpin Tour - Camping (price on request) is five days for dedicated adventurers and holds a permit for Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge), a restricted area most visitors never see, plus a Yellow Waters sunset cruise. Groups of 5 to 12.
The Kakadu 2 Day - Colours of Kakadu is the small-group short option: four to eight guests aged 18 to 39, the Guluyambi Culture Cruise, the Nourlangie rock art walk, sunset at Nawurlanja and a sunrise Yellow Waters cruise, with accommodation, park passes, cruises and a flight all included.
The dry (roughly May to October) is when the 4WD tracks, Jim Jim Falls and Gunlom are open and the swimming is at its best. The wet (November to April) brings storms, flooded roads and closures, so guides swap closed sites for open ones.
Saltwater crocodiles live in Top End rivers, billabongs and estuaries. Swim only where it is signed as safe, never at river edges or boat ramps, and follow your guide every time. Drinks on the camping tours are BYO, cans only.
Yes. The Kakadu & Litchfield Tour - Camping covers both parks in three days: Ubirr, Maguk and Gunlom in Kakadu, then Wangi Falls and Buley Rockhole in Litchfield.
At the signed swimming spots the tours use, yes, and your guide confirms which pools are open each day. Saltwater crocodiles live in Top End waterways, so never swim anywhere that is not signed as safe.
The dry season, roughly May to October, when the 4WD tracks to Jim Jim Falls, Gunlom and Koolpin are open.
The 4WD Kakadu Tour and the five-day Koolpin trip are advertised for the fit and active, with hot, rocky walks into the plunge pools. The Litchfield day trip and Colours of Kakadu are far gentler.
