Overview

Fifteen thousand feet is the highest legal altitude to jump from in Australia, and from there you can see Rottnest laid out below and Perth city and the WA coastline beyond. The flight to altitude is a highlight in itself.

Then comes 66 seconds of freefall with an experienced tandem instructor, followed by about five minutes under the parachute with unobstructed views of the island and a landing right on the beach. Photo and video packages can be bought as an extra.

Western Australia often gets strong winds on summer afternoons, so book a morning jump where you can. Skydiving is always weather dependent. The minimum age is 16, and there is a weight restriction of 95kg, with passengers between 95 and 115kg considered case by case. The ferry to the island is separate.

    24 hours notice of cancellation is required. A no-show or cancellation within 24 hours of jump time is charged $200 per person. If the operator cancels for weather, it will try to arrange another date or time. If that does not suit you, there is no charge and any deposit is refunded. Flights not meeting minimum numbers are rescheduled.
