Every spring, thousands of humpbacks pass Perth's doorstep on the southern migration, mothers, calves and show-offs, breaching and tail-lobbing their way down the coast. From late August to early November, this cruise puts you in the middle of the commute, just two hours door to door from Hillarys Boat Harbour.
The Ocean Master is a modern catamaran with three viewing decks and panoramic windows, so there's no bad seat when a whale decides to perform, and the commentary comes from onboard marine scientists, not a script, which turns every breach and pec-slap into a lesson you didn't notice receiving. Southern right whales, dolphins and sea lions pad out the cast list, and there's a licensed snack bar for provisions.
The confidence move: a 100% sighting guarantee, no whales, and you cruise again free within the season. Wheelchair-accessible areas make it one of Perth's most inclusive wildlife experiences. Cheap, close and reliably good.

"Two close whales tail slapping near the boat. Lots of distant breaches. Very good value."

"I really enjoyed the ride, even though I’m usually not a fan of ferries. Everything was well organised, and the journey was smooth and enjoyable."
