Most people see Rottnest's beaches; this one adds the coastline. You take the high-speed ferry from Fremantle, then board the Eco Express for a 90-minute ride along the island's rugged shores, looking for wildlife, including migrating humpback whales (September to November).

In the afternoon you get free time to explore the car-free island on your own. The day runs around 8 hours. Please arrive at the ferry terminal at least 20 minutes before departure. The operator notes the boat ride is not suitable for children under 4, expectant mothers or people with certain pre-existing conditions, so check with them if you're unsure.

"On a lovely spring day we were able to spend a good 6 hours or so on Rottnest, swimming at Little Salmon Bay, photgraphing quokkas, and touring around on the hop-on, hop-off bus. Pretty well perfect and hassle free"
