Overview

If you've got one day in Airlie Beach and want the lot, this is the shape of it: coral reef snorkelling, the guided walk to Hill Inlet Lookout, and Whitehaven Beach itself with lunch laid out on the sand. Big Fury runs small groups, so you're not queueing for the stairs at the lookout.

Snorkelling equipment, stinger suits (October to May) and flotation gear (pool noodles, life jackets) are all on board, so non-swimmers and nervous first-timers are covered. Lunch is a buffet picnic on Whitehaven, afternoon cakes come later, and tap water is free; soft drinks, bottled water and chocolates are cash-only extras, as is wetsuit hire in winter.

Courtesy transfers from Airlie Beach accommodation are included; if you drive to the marina instead, budget for a day's parking. Roughly seven hours door to door. Per the operator's policy, cancellations inside 24 hours of departure forfeit the full fare, so lock in a day you can make.
