Overview

A full-day whale encounter on a fast, modern sailing vessel with low passenger numbers, so there's no crowding. The skipper has decades of experience with marine mammals, and the operator has run whale and dolphin watching in Hervey Bay since 1996.

You depart at 7.30am and return around 3.30pm, with morning tea, afternoon tea and a buffet lunch with a complimentary drink. On board there's an in-water whale experience platform, a hydrophone and viewing scopes, plus full walk-around decks with shaded seating. The operator says the sailing vessel gives the most time with the whales and has a small carbon footprint.

The season runs from late July to the end of October, as the operator states. The operator says it's best suited to children aged 8 and over.

"Absolutely loved this. A small group and perfect boat meant unobstructed views and direct contact with anyone for questions. Plenty of food throughout the day and best of all, dedication in spotting the whales and keeping respectable distance from them. Highly recommend, and would do it again."

"It was nearing the end of the whale watching season so we thought we wouldn't see too many whales. What a surprise we had! There were mothers and their babies as well as a couple of males tagging along."

"There's a good deal of luck in whale-watching, so you never know if you'll get a few biscuits or the full gateaux - but the one thing you're guaranteed here, if my all-day experience is anything to go by, is a super cool trip with super-cool crew.
