Overview

Malamala bills itself as the world's first island beach club, and the setup is simple: an island small enough to walk around in 20 minutes, a resort-style infinity-edge pool, white-sand beaches, cabanas and views across the Mamanucas. It's about 30 minutes by catamaran from Port Denarau.

The full-day pass leaves Port Denarau at 9.30am and lands you on the island at 10am. You choose your boat home: the 4.15pm, back at Denarau at 4.45pm, or the 5.30pm, back at 6pm.

Snorkel gear, kayaks, paddleboards, towels and Wi-Fi in the main club are free. Food and drinks aren't included and outside food isn't allowed, so budget for lunch and cocktails, paid by card. Poolside day beds and beachside cabanas can be hired on the day. There's an adults-only area for over-16s; children pay the adult rate.

    The free coach runs from most Nadi, Denarau, Vuda and Wailoaloa hotels, and seats must be booked at least 24 hours ahead (we do it with your booking). Be at the pickup point 15 minutes early: drivers can't wait. Miss it and you'll need your own way to Port Denarau.
