Overview

New Horizon is a 21-metre traditional sailing vessel with old-world looks and the modern bits that matter in the tropics: full air conditioning, hot showers, and big sun decks with bean bags and shade. She carries up to 32 passengers and four crew, which makes her one of the more social boats in Airlie, and the eight-metre inflatable slide off the side sets the tone.

Day one cruises to Bauer Bay at South Molle for a swim and a go on the slide, then anchors in Hook Passage for dinner, sunset, music and games. Day two sails to Tongue Bay for the bushwalk up to Hill Inlet lookout, a few hours on Whitehaven Beach, a buffet lunch back on board, then a snorkel over coral with the likes of Maori wrasse and turtles about. Day three is a slide into the ocean to shake off the night before, a few water activities and the sail back to the mainland.

It doesn't quite end there: the crew host an after-party at a bar in town with drink discounts for the group. Fresh linen, all freshly prepared meals and snacks (special diets on request), stinger suits and snorkel gear are included; BYO drinks go in the esky. Whales pass through July to September. Bring bath and beach towels.

"They took us to bays which were amazing full of sea life and even had sharks by our boat at night. … took us to Whitehaven beach early, which was the best decision. By 10am it was absolutely packed and would’ve ruined the experience."
