Overview

The Red Centre's big three in three days, done the backpacker way: a small group, a lot of driving through very red country, and two nights camping under more stars than you've seen before.

Day one picks up in Alice Springs at 6am (or around 1pm at Ayers Rock Airport), then it's the Cultural Centre, a guided walk at the base of Uluru and sunset with a glass of bubbly. Day two starts early for sunrise and the Valley of the Winds hike at Kata Tjuta, then crosses the outback past the George Gill Range to camp at Kings Creek Station with dinner by the fire. Day three is the Kings Canyon Rim Walk and the Garden of Eden waterhole before the drive back to Alice.

It's an energetic trip for 18 to 49 year olds: everyone pitches in with camp jobs, and the walks are proper hikes. Meals as listed, hot showers at camp.
