Rottnest is a car-free island about 18km off the Perth coast, and this is the simplest way to get there: a same-day return ferry from Hillarys Boat Harbour on a modern, stable catamaran with panoramic windows, air-conditioned seating and outdoor decking. Once you land, the day is yours: swim at a bay, walk or hire a bike on the island, or look for quokkas. Parking at Hillarys Boat Harbour is free, and the operator also offers a bike fleet on the island.
