Overview

South Sea Island is a short hop from Denarau, so you get most of the day on the sand. The catamaran leaves Port Denarau at 10am and you're on the island by 10.45am.

It's small, but it keeps you busy: a semi-submersible coral viewer for the reef without getting wet, a saltwater pool, and free snorkel gear, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, with good swimming and snorkelling even at low tide. Lunch is the social bit of the day, with everyone at rustic tables in the open-air restaurant, a Fijian meke performance and a craft market (daily except Sundays).

The buffet lunch is included, and so are local beer, house wine, filtered water and soft drinks all day. Scuba diving, island massage and cocktails from the Tipsy Turtle Bar cost extra. There's a free kids' club for 3 to 12 year olds. Pick the 4pm or 5.15pm boat home, back at Denarau at 4.45pm or 6pm. Return hotel coach included.
