Overview

West of Alice Springs the MacDonnell Ranges run for hundreds of kilometres, cut by red-walled gorges with permanent waterholes at their feet. This day tour strings the best of them together.

You're collected from your Alice Springs accommodation at 7:45am. The morning takes in walks at Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (where morning tea is served, entry included) and the Ochre Pits, with a stop at the Flynn Memorial along the way. Lunch is a sit-down buffet at Ormiston Gorge, then on the way home you stop at Ellery Creek Big Hole, one of the Centre's most pristine waterholes. Bring swimmers in the warmer months.

You're back at your accommodation around 5:30pm, and in winter the ranges glow orange and red on the drive home. The walks suit all fitness levels. The tour runs daily from April to October, and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from November to March.
