Byron Bay isn't a place you visit so much as a lifestyle you audition for, and this package is the audition: three days and two nights based at a Byron Bay surf camp, with a surf lesson every single day to build actual skills instead of one-off beginner's luck.
The accommodation is a teepee-style bell tent in a social backpacker setting, musicians, travellers, artists and a permanent soundtrack. Each day includes one lesson with boards and equipment supplied for the session, and Byron's learner-friendly waves do the rest of the coaching. Between surfs, the town takes over: beaches, cafés, boutiques by day; the bar-and-live-music circuit by night.
Meals are your own (no breakfast included), which in Byron is less a gap than an invitation. Three consecutive days of surfing is where it starts to stick, you'll leave standing up and planning a return.

Three days of progression
Roll into Byron Bay and check in to your teepee-style bell tent at the surf camp, a 10 minute walk from town. Meet the surf crew at the meet-and-greet, then make the most of the grounds: a pool, hammocks, table tennis, a pool table and volleyball, plus a community kitchen if you want to cook your own dinner. No lessons run on arrival day unless you reach the accommodation before 7:30am.
Your surf guide meets you and the rest of your surf group before the 8:30am lesson, then whisks you to the best learner beach of the day, chosen from plenty around Byron, Lennox Head and Ballina. Boards and wetsuits go on, there is a quick stretch and beach lesson, and then you are in the water with professional instructors, all equipment provided. Back at the camp around 12 to 1pm, the afternoon is yours to explore Byron's beaches, shops and cafes, or walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse for the most easterly point of Australia (keep an eye out for dolphins). Monday nights at the camp bring a talent show.
Check out before your 8:30am lesson, then paddle out for one more session at the day's best learner beach and put everything you learned together. Back around 12 to 1pm.
