Short answer: the best surf camp deals in Australia are the 3-day, 2-night surf and stays on the New South Wales north coast. The Byron Bay Surf & Stay (3D/2N) is $279 per person with us (the operator’s own site lists it from $318): two nights in a bell tent at a Byron surf camp, two lessons, boards and wetsuits, no meals. Surf & Stay Spot X (3D/2N), a beachfront camp at Arrawarra, is $389 with us (operator’s site: from $390) and includes every meal. The surf camps south of Sydney we checked cost $445 for a weekend with meals and transport from Sydney. A week in Byron at another camp was $699 in September and October 2026 only, and its peak-season price is $1,299.

Our prices are per person in AUD and update from our live listings. Other camps’ prices are what their own websites showed on 27 October 2026, and they change by season.

What the table shows: for two nights, our Byron Bay Surf & Stay at $279 is the lowest price on the list, and Spot X at $389 is the lowest with every meal included. The South Coast camp at A$445 adds a third lesson and the coach from Sydney. The A$699 week in Byron is a spring special that ends with October; the same week is A$1,299 in peak season, so a price you see in an AI answer or an old blog post may already be gone.

Byron Bay Surf & Stay: the lowest price for two nights

Byron Bay Surf & Stay (3D/2N), from $279. A teepee-style bell tent at a Byron Bay surf camp with a pool, 10 minutes’ walk from town, and an 8:30am lesson on days two and three at whichever beach has the best learner waves that day (Byron, Lennox Head or Ballina). Boards and wetsuits are supplied and you’re back around 12 to 1pm, so afternoons and nights are yours in Byron.

Not included: meals and bike hire. There is no lesson on arrival day.

Who it suits: backpackers who want surfing, a social camp and Byron’s nightlife, and are happy to cook or eat out.

Spot X: best value with every meal included

Surf & Stay Spot X (3D/2N), from $389. An absolute-beachfront surf camp at Arrawarra, between Sydney and Byron Bay, with a lesson for each night you stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, a dorm-share bed and all surf gear for lessons. Evenings are a campfire at camp rather than a night out.

Byron packages leave you paying for six meals. At Spot X they’re in the price, which closes most of the gap between the two.

Who it suits: anyone who would rather surf, eat and sleep on the beach, and anyone on the way up the coast from Sydney. Spot X is also the surf stop on our 28-day and 33-day Travel Mates East Coast trips.

A week of surfing for less

Two ways to put a week together with us:

  • Both camps back to back: Byron Bay Surf & Stay plus Spot X is $279 + $389 for four nights, four lessons and six days of meals at Spot X.
  • Five lessons in Byron: the Byron Bay Surf Tour is $409 for five 3 to 4 hour lessons on five days in a row with Surfing Australia-certified instructors and pickup for each one. It’s lessons only, so you book your own bed. It’s built to take you from your first pop-up to riding unbroken waves on your own.

Lessons only: under $200

How to get the best deal

  • Count the meals. A no-meals package that looks $100 lower can cost more once you’ve paid for six meals in Byron.
  • Check the dates on a special. Seasonal specials are often a few weeks long. The A$699 week above is A$1,299 in peak season.
  • Compare the bed. Cheaper packages usually mean more people per room. Check the dorm size before you book.
  • Winter is cheaper, the water colder. Several camps drop their prices from June to August. Wetsuits are included everywhere on this page.
  • Found it cheaper elsewhere? Our Price Match Promise says we’ll do our best to beat it on an identical product.
