Overview

This is a surf lesson you have to drive the beach to reach. A 4WD takes you along the Great Beach Drive from Rainbow Beach to Double Island Point, a sandy point break in the Great Sandy National Park that most visitors never see.

It's one of the best places in Australia to learn: waist-deep water, clear and warm, and beginner waves that run for hundreds of metres, so you get long rides and fast progression. Groups are small, it's away from the crowds, and there's a chance of surfing with dolphins in the marine park.

In four hours you get the beach 4WD transport, a soft surfboard and wetsuit or rash shirt, the lesson itself and national park entry fees. Ask the crew and they'll take photos.
