Day trip: one sunset at the rock
The Uluru Sunset Day Tour from Alice Springs or Ayers Rock Resort is from $329 for the Ayers Rock Resort return, about six hours. The three Alice Springs options (Alice return, Alice to the resort, or the resort to Alice) cost more, and the Alice return is a 7am pickup that gets you back after midnight. You get a guide, the Cultural Centre, the Mala Walk past Anangu rock art, Mutitjulu Waterhole and a sunset dinner with sparkling wine. The park pass is not included.
What the money gets you: Uluru at sunset in a day. No Kata Tjuta, no Kings Canyon, no sunrise.
4 days from Alice Springs
The Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon 4 Day Tour, Swag (Alice Springs to Yulara) from $799 is the entry price for all three Red Centre icons. Included: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners, three swag nights, park entry, Uluru sunset and sunrise, the base walk, Walpa Gorge at Kata Tjuta and the Kings Canyon Rim Walk.
It ends at Yulara, not Alice. If you need to get back to Alice Springs by road, the Alice Springs to Ayers Rock Resort Coach Transfer runs in either direction from $269, one way. Count it in your total.
5 days, back to Alice Springs
The Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon & MacDonnell Ranges 5 Day Tour (Alice Springs Return) from $1,539 adds the West and East MacDonnell Ranges and Ormiston Gorge, and finishes where it started. Included: 4 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 4 dinners, two nights in a permanent tented camp and two in swags, a sleeping bag and park entry.
You pay more than the 4-day, but you skip the transfer back to Alice.
7 days from Adelaide
The Adelaide to Uluru 7 Day Outback Tour from $1,909 drives up through the Ikara-Flinders Ranges and Coober Pedy to Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta and Uluru. Included: five swag nights, one night in an underground dorm, all park and entrance fees, all listed activities and a storyteller guide. Meals are 6 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 3 dinners, so this is the tour where you buy the most of your own food.
Linking north: Alice Springs to Darwin
The Alice Springs to Darwin 3 Day Outback Tour from $839 is not an Uluru tour, but it is the onward leg if you finish in Alice. Dorm beds, park entry, two breakfasts, two dinners and a maximum of 10 guests are included; lunches and drinks are not.
Days in Alice Springs
If you have a spare day in town: the Red Centre Journey Morning Tour from $169, the Historical Alice Springs Tour from $209, or the West MacDonnell Ranges Day Tour from $279 with morning tea, a buffet lunch and Standley Chasm entry included.
What’s included and what’s extra
The park pass. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park entry is included on the 4, 5 and 7-day tours. It is not included on the day tour, either Segway ride or the Uluru sunset helicopter flight; our day-tour listing puts it at $38 per person. The Red Centre Journey lists a separate $10 national park fee, and the Heli Safari to Kings Canyon needs a Watarrka park pass.
Meals. The 4-day includes 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners. The 5-day includes 4 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 4 dinners. The 7-day from Adelaide includes 6 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 3 dinners, so budget for most lunches and some dinners yourself. Drinks are yours on all of them.
Optional extras on the 7-day. A deluxe double swag upgrade, Field of Light entry, and the transfer from Uluru or Yulara to Alice Springs are all extra.
Getting there and away. None of the tours includes flights. The 4-day and 7-day end at Yulara, so budget for a flight out or the one-way coach to Alice from $269.
Add-ons at the rock. Uluru By Segway from $209, the Quarter Uluru Segway & Sunset from $239, the Uluru & Kata Tjuta Sunset Helicopter Flight from $489 and the Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon Heli Safari from $1,809 are all priced on top of a tour. Which flight to pick, and when the money is better spent on the ground, is in our Uluru and Kings Canyon helicopter flights guide.
FAQs

Is the Uluru park pass included?
On the 4, 5 and 7-day tours, yes. On the day tour, the Segway rides and the sunset helicopter flight, no.

Is it cheaper to start in Alice Springs or Adelaide?
